The VFM is one of Canada’s leading farmers market organizations. East Vancouver’s Trout Lake Farmers Market located at John Hendry Park boasts over 60 farms and producers, coffee and food trucks and is regularly bustling with locals picking up fresh fruits, flowers and treating themselves to some delicious homemade baked goods. One of the most popular markets in the city, the Trout Lake Farmers Market is a great way to start the weekend and is conveniently just a 5-minute walk from The Cut, our newest Trout Lake townhome community.

With our sponsorship, we were able to provide local not-for-profit organizations with the opportunity to access the market and gain valuable exposure for their small businesses. We have enjoyed working with these grassroot groups, including EarthBites and Flavours of Hope, and learning about their initiatives.

Earthbites is a school garden education society based in Vancouver that works with schools and students in Vancouver and throughout BC to teach them about growing food and eating healthy! Proceeds from the sales of their seed kits go towards expanding their school programs and workshops which help teach students to grow, harvest and eat vegetables, fruits and herbs with the seasons.
We were also thrilled to be able to support Flavours of Hope, a non-profit social enterprise that supports refugee and immigrant newcomer women in Canada. Through Dream Cuisines, these women gain access to educational workshops, peer knowledge sharing, commissary kitchen space, sales channels, and a network of supportive relationships helping to break down the systemic barriers in the food industry as they build up their burgeoning food businesses.
Flavours of Hope’s 2022 cohort included two remarkable women, talented chefs and resilient entrepreneurs working towards actualizing their culinary dreams in Canada, Vijaya Bhat and Rose Minachi.
Vijaya Bhat

Vijaya Bhat arrived from India two and a half years ago, and is excited to realize her dream of Super Awesome Eats, a vegan sourdough baking business! Vijaya is a dedicated, creative baker who dreams of owning a small cafe one day. Her memories of her mother’s fresh cooking and baking hold a special place in her heart; she hopes to offer Mangalore buns in the future, which she grew up eating for breakfast. Her special sourdough cinnamon buns will be graced with South Asian flavours like mango yogurt and masala chai. Vijaya is happy to be part of the Dream Cuisines cohort and the strong women it represents.
Rose Minachi

Rose Minachi and her daughter Ariana came to Canada from Iran two years ago. A talented and dedicated baker, Rose is proud of her roots and excited to share her Persian desserts with a wider audience. Rose Royal Persian Bakery will represent Rose’s meticulous craft and passion for Persian treats, offering such delights as traditional chickpea cookies and Malake Badam, an almond tart with rosewater, cardamom, and saffron. Rose loves to cook and invite friends over for food, and she looks forward to expressing her innate hospitality through her new baking business. “People like my food because it is made with love!”
